    There are many reasons to visit Indy, and whatever brings you to town, I am so happy you’re here! If you’re searching for where to stay in Indianapolis, here is a list of a few top hotels in Indy (and one in Carmel 😉) that I would stay at again and again.

    And if you’re an Indianapolis local looking for a weekend getaway idea, I’ve got you too!

    Indianapolis has seen a large increase in tourism over the years. I attended the Visit Indy State of Tourism event at the beginning of this year, and was blown away by the numbers 2025 brought in for the Circle City. There are many things we can thank for that, including our fantastic sports teams, big-name events and concerts, and most importantly… conventions, conventions, conventions!

    If you’re visiting Indianapolis for the first time, this is one of the hotels I’d recommend most. The location makes it incredibly easy to explore some of the best things to do in downtown Indianapolis without getting back in your car. Bottleworks Hotel is THAT GIRL!! Swanky, eclectic, stunning, perfect. it’s right inside Indianapolis’ hottest hangout spot: The Bottleworks District, home to PINS Mechanical, The Garage Food Hall, and some of Indy’s best restaurants. Plus, it’s downtown on Mass Ave. Perfect for out-of-town visitors coming to Indy for a vacation, a girls’ trip, or a couples getaway.

    Looking for a hotel near Indianapolis with more of a small town vibe? This gorgeous hotel is right in the heart of charming Carmel, Indiana. I know I am cheating a bit because this hotel is in Carmel rather than Indianapolis, but it would be truly criminal to leave them off this list! Hotel Carmichael is walkable to iconic restaurants, the Monon Trail, and the best local boutiques in Carmel, Indiana. Don’t miss a show at Feinstein’s downstairs! This is a live music lounge inside the hotel with dinner + shows that are always a good time. They also have a French-inspired restaurant called Vivante that you can check out for brunch, lunch and dinner.

    Full disclosure: I have never actually stayed the night at Hotel Carmichael (any Hotel Carmichael execs want to hit me up?👀), but my sister stayed here for her wedding night and still RAVES about it to this day. I have attended several events at the hotel and they are always fabulous!

    Ironworks Hotel Indy is a rustic, moody, and stunning hotel on the north side of Indianapolis. Perfect for local couples looking for a weekend getaway, or visitors who refuse to settle for “boring” hotels. BONUS: My favorite Indy sushi spot and brunch spot are both right downstairs! We went to the Ironworks Hotel for a Valentine’s Day getaway (hint, hint: it’s never too early to start planning for V-day 2027). This hotel is perfect for a local getaway because once you arrive, you never have to leave! There are plenty of restaurants and bars surrounding the Ironworks property. Plus, a spa and a gym inside the hotel.

    Affordable hotel in downtown Indianapolis with a pool, gym, and the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had! If you’re coming to Indianapolis for a convention, Colts game, Pacers game, concert, or another downtown event, this is one of the more convenient hotels to consider. It’s also a good option if you want a downtown location without paying the luxury-hotel price. Parking was $48 a night when we stayed there, but there are several other garages you can check out instead.If I could’ve stayed here longer, I definitely would’ve spent more time checking out their pool and hot tub area. It looked clean and luxurious!

    For a romantic Indianapolis getaway, I’d personally choose Bottleworks Hotel or Ironworks Hotel Indy. Both have great restaurants and entertainment nearby, so you can park your car and enjoy a walkable staycation.

    Where should I stay in Indianapolis for a Colts game?

    If you’re visiting Indianapolis for a Colts game, look for a downtown hotel within walking distance to Lucas Oil Stadium. Parking and driving is a MESS on game days!! Embassy Suites by Hilton Indianapolis Downtown is one option I’ve personally enjoyed.

    Is Indianapolis a good weekend getaway?

    Absolutely! Indianapolis has enough restaurants, sports, entertainment, museums, shopping, and local attractions to make a great weekend trip, whether you’re visiting from out of town or planning a staycation as an Indiana local. If you’re more of a small-town, low-key person (like me) Carmel, Indiana is the perfect place to stay away from the downtown hustle and bustle.

    Bike or walk the Monon trail

    The Monon trail connects Downtown Indianapolis to Broad Ripple, Carmel, Westfield, and Sheridan. It is a free, paved trail with several restaurants, playgrounds, and shops along the way. Grab your bikes and take a family ride along the trail. I recommend stopping for lunch at Big Lug or Bub’s Burgers. Bonus: This is a FREE summer activity in Indianapolis.

    Root for the Home Team at an Indianapolis Indians Baseball Game

    A summer tradition in Indianapolis. Going to an Indianapolis Indians baseball game on warm summer nights is what summer is all about! Tickets start around $15, but AAA members get free tickets to Monday – Thursday games! On Tuesdays they have $1 concessions, so you can really make it a cheap date! Thursdays are also a good day to go and get $3 beers. Fridays are fireworks nights!

    Holliday Park is my new favorite park in Indianapolis. Aside from the many walking trails, nature center, and the brand new playground, this Indianapolis park is also hiding something very special. Visitors to Holliday Park in Indianapolis can visit real ruins, and even attend events like Rock the Ruins, a summer concert series that brings in several bands and performers every year. Bonus: This is a FREE summer activity in Indianapolis.

Well, I’m here to tell you that they are just as fun as they look. Not only do you get to drink on a bike with your friends, but you also get some of the best views of Indianapolis. This is one of the most fun ways to see our capital city!

    Located in the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center in Plainfield, Indiana, Splash Island is an outdoor waterpark with six waterslides, a splash pad, lazy river, whirlpools, and concessions. This was my childhood SPOT! We loved Splash Island as kids, but as an adult it’s just as fun. Plus, they’ve added a couple more waterslides since I was last there.

    Here are some things to know before you go to the Indiana State Fair:

    I maintain that this was the best thing we did in Summer 2025. Kroger Symphony on the Prairie is a concert series at Conner Prairie in Fishers, Indiana put on by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. We bought lawn tickets to the Taylor Swift tribute band, so we were able to bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets, homemade charcuterie boards, and bottles of wine. It was truly one of my favorite nights… EVER! We are going back this year of course. 😉

    This dream scenario was my reality just weeks ago when I visited Gervasi Vineyard Resort & Spa in Canton, Ohio.

    The Casa

    We stayed at The Casa which is the main lodging accommodation at Gervasi. Our favorite parts of The Casa were the private veranda overlooking the water where we enjoyed (many) glasses of wine and complimentary breakfast delivery. Also, the heated towel bars. I mean, where have these been all my life?!

    We especially enjoyed the courtyard at night for fire pit conversations. We met several lovely couples and enjoyed sharing stories and sipping wine together while the sun went down. 

    Other lodging accommodations include The Villas and The Farmhouse. Side note, that The Farmhouse would also be perfect for group trips. So, if you’re searching for bachelorette party ideas within driving distance from Indianapolis, definitely look into The Farmhouse at Gervasi!

    Dining

    The Bistro – Upscale, Italian dining in a historic, restored barn. If you plan on coming to Gervasi, The Bistro is a must! Definitely make reservations and consider a more formal outfit choice for this dining experience. We got the ricotta spread, pierogies (get these – trust me!), short ribs, roasted salmon, and peanut butter, banana mousse trifle. The vibes, the food, the wine… all a 10/10!

    The Crush House – Lunch & dinner with happy hour specials, wine tastings, and patio dining. We weren’t able to try this one during our stay, but I really wish we did! Their menu consists of soups, salads, pasta, and sandwiches. A couple things that stand out to me are the deviled eggs (my jam!), seared sea scallops, and the chocolate tiramisu martini. Umm… YES PLEASE! Happy Hour is Monday – Friday 2-6pm. Just another reason to make this your mid-week getaway destination!

    The Piazza – Outdoor dining with lake views and live music. They don’t accept reservations at The Piazza, so come early and stay awhile! They have pizzas, cocktails, sandwiches, and Italian-American plates. We got the nachos as an appetizer (which I highly recommend!), the lobster rolls, and the meatball sub. Don’t miss the ice cream sandwich for dessert!

    The Still House – Coffee to cocktails with small bites, breakfast options, and live music. This is where I would get my coffee fix every morning. This is also where I tried the viral dot cake which is in fact, a cake with sprinkles all over it. Right up my alley, LOL! You can come here at night for cocktails and live music on select nights. 

    Gervasi Destinations also has two offsite restaurants, The Twisted Olive and OLINDA, in case you want to venture off the resort!

    The Cave

    The Cave is where you can do a guided tasting tour of the delicious wines made at Gervasi Vineyard. My husband and I agreed that this was the best wine tasting we’ve ever done (and we just got back from Italy!). The reason being that the guides really value education. They taught us the proper way to taste, why certain notes come through, and why the wine changes with certain food pairings. We learned so much from the Gervasi Vineyard team!

    The Spa at Gervasi Vineyard is right above The Cave and just steps away from The Casa. They offer massages, skin care, nail care, and even makeup applications! I got a pedicure while I was there and they truly made me feel like royalty with a warm shoulder compress, complimentary beverage and snacks, and, of course, excellent nail care service! If you are wanting to experience The Spa as a couple, I recommend calling and asking about their couples packages. They looked heavenly!

    Live Music & Concerts

    The Musica Concert Series at Gervasi Vineyard is located in The Pavilion at the resort. This is a summer concert series taking place every Thursday with tributes to Prince, Abba, Morgan Wallen, and more. We went to the ELO tribute concert and it was a smash! People were out of their seats, dancing, laughing, and having a good time. You must buy tickets for this in advance!

    Why the Twilight Railbike Ride is a Perfect Double Date Near Indianapolis 

    My husband and I recently took my sister and brother-in-law on a double date to the Nickel Plate Express to do their Twilight Railbike Ride. The whole time we were riding, we kept talking about all the people we’d want to bring there next time! We had an absolute blast from beginning to end (and especially in the middle). We chose the Twilight Ride to get beautiful sunset views and cooler weather. But the real highlight of the Twilight Ride was the turnaround point.

    The Twilight Ride is a 7-mile, 3-hour journey (including the 1-hour stop at the turnaround). Once you get halfway through the ride, you get to sit by bonfires and roast s’mores to truly make this the perfect Indiana summer night. 

    The Twilight Rides are running through the fall, so check for available dates here. 

    What to Bring on a Nickel Plate Express Railbike Ride

    There are two small baskets on either side of the railbikes, so you can definitely bring along some “road trip” goodies for your ride! We brought water bottles, snacks, cookies, and sweaters. But, if I were to do this again, I would bring everything I mentioned above AND hot dogs, buns, and ketchup packets. That way, you can also roast hot dogs on the turnaround point along with the s’mores they provide you. This only applies to the Twilight Railbike rides since they have the bonfires at the turnaround point, but for any other railbike ride at Nickel Plate Express, here is what you should definitely bring:

    • Water bottles and drinks
    • Snacks – Beef jerky, crackers, cookies, and anything else that you like to munch on!
    • Bug spray
    • Sunscreen
    • Sweaters or sweatshirts

    The baskets aren’t huge, but they were the perfect size for our small travel cooler.

    Would You Try a Railbike Ride at Nickel Plate Express?

    I can’t recommend this double date idea near Indy enough. We are still talking about it! However, if you’re not the double-date type, this activity in Noblesville, Indiana is also perfect for girls trips, family outings, and friend groups. There was even a bachelorette party on my ride! If you have more than four people, you can also attach two railbikes together. The family in front of us did that so they could all still chat while riding.

    Where to Get a Water Softener and Reverse Osmosis System in Central Indiana (Installation, Cost & What to Expect)

    If you live in Central Indiana, you’ve probably heard people talk about hard water or water filtration, but it’s not always clear what you actually need, or where to even start.

    I’ll be honest, this wasn’t something I thought much about until I moved into our current home one year ago and started noticing a few things that felt off.

    I started dealing with more skin irritation than usual, and my hair just wasn’t behaving the same either. At our old house (which had a water softener), I could go 5–6 days without washing my hair. After moving? That quickly turned into washing every 2-3 days.

    I also realized I was relying heavily on a basic water filter pitcher which I know doesn’t actually filter anything but the taste. And since I drink about 3 “Big Dumb Water Bottles” a day, I was constantly refilling the pitcher (which got old fast).

    So I decided it was time to actually look into what was going on with our water and what we could do about it.

    A Behind-the-Scenes Look at a Local Water Company

    I recently had the chance to partner with US Water Systems, which is based in Plainfield, Indiana just west of Indianapolis. This isn’t just an online company or a middleman. They have a full facility, a real team, and assemble their systems right here in Indy!

    They’re family-owned and operated, and you can really tell. I met members of the team, and they just had that close-knit, local business feel that you don’t always get anymore.

    Getting to see everything in person made me feel a lot more confident about the decision to move forward. I love that I can support a local business while also protecting my home’s water. 

    Why I Decided to Upgrade Our Home Water System

    After learning more about how different systems work, I ended up installing:

    This decision came down to a few things:

    • I drink a lot of water every day and wanted to feel more confident in it
    • I didn’t love relying on a basic filter pitcher (and constantly refilling it 🙃)
    • I wanted to cut back on buying plastic water bottles
    • I had started noticing hard water buildup and changes in my skin and hair

    If you’ve ever dealt with cloudy shower glass or buildup on faucets, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

    What the Installation Process Was Like

    I’m not going to lie, this process had a slight hiccup. When we opened up the closet where the water softener was going to go, we realized there had been some water damage from that lovely Indiana spring rain we’ve been having. So that had to be fixed before anything could be installed.

    Once that was handled, everything moved forward pretty smoothly.

    We worked with Blue Cord Plumbing (Curtis was amazing!) for the water softener installation. US Water Systems has plenty of great online videos to show you how to DIY the install, but I highly recommend going with a professional for this part.

    The reverse osmosis system and Pulsar UV fits right under the sink, which was way more compact than I expected. We were able to install this ourselves with the help of US Water Systems’ trusty YouTube tutorials!

    And I have to mention this because it was something I was so nervous about: We had to drill into our countertop for the RO faucet 😅

    I genuinely thought something might go wrong and our entire countertop would get cracked, but we had Performance Stoneworks come out and they handled it in about 30 seconds. It was so quick and easy and made me feel so much better knowing my countertops were safe.

    What I’ve Noticed Since Installing

    Since installing these systems, I’ve noticed:

    • Less visible buildup on our shower glass and fixtures
    • My skin feels softer after showering
    • My hair feels more manageable again
    • And not having to refill a water pitcher constantly has been life-changing. If you know, you know 😂

    One moment that really stood out to me was my first shower after the water softener was installed. My skin immediately felt smoother and almost silky.

    What Does a Reverse Osmosis System Actually Do?

    If you’re new to this (like I was), here’s a simple breakdown:

    A reverse osmosis system is designed to filter water through multiple stages to reduce certain impurities and improve taste.

    The RO system I installed also includes a UV component, which acts as an additional treatment step that can be helpful during situations like boil water advisories.

    As always, results can vary depending on your home’s water quality, which is why it’s helpful to talk with a professional before choosing a system.

    Do You Need a Water Softener in Central Indiana?

    A lot of homes in Central Indiana deal with hard water to some degree.

    Hard water can lead to things like:

    • Mineral buildup on fixtures
    • Spots on dishes or glass
    • More frequent cleaning
    • Changes in how your skin and hair feel

    A water softener works by reducing the minerals that cause that buildup, which can help improve how water feels and how your home functions day-to-day.

    Being able to visit their facility, meet the team, ask questions in person, and know exactly where your system is coming from adds a level of trust that’s hard to get otherwise.

    Final Thoughts: Is It Worth It?

    If you’re someone who drinks a lot of water at home, has noticed buildup or hard water issues, wants to reduce plastic waste, or just wants to feel more confident in your home setup, it’s definitely worth looking into your options.

    For me, this was about making a practical, long-term investment in our home that just makes everyday life feel a little better knowing I can be confident in the water I’m drinking and using on my skin.

    Places in Indiana… That Don’t Feel Like Indiana

    Author John Green recently gave Indianapolis the slogan: “You gotta live somewhere, but also you get to live somewhere,” and it’s true. As a local Indy content creator who encourages folks to love where they live, I feel it’s best to be transparent and tell you that while I am incredibly grateful to live in Indiana, I didn’t always feel that way. Even still, I occasionally have days where I’m eating breakfast and go… “GET ME OUTTA HERE!!!”

    And on those days, I have found little pockets of Indiana that feel like I’ve been transported somewhere else. To European palaces, ancient ruins, beachside lunches, and fairy cottages. I have a lot of love for my Indianapolis community, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. But if you also occasionally get cabin fever or if you just want to explore your home state in a new light, here is my list of places in Indiana… that don’t feel like Indiana. If you are just looking for unique places in Indiana and hidden gems near Indianapolis, keep reading.

    Holliday Park

    Feels like stumbling across ruins in an ancient land.

    Holliday Park is my new favorite park in Indianapolis. Aside from the many walking trails, nature center, and the brand new playground, this Indy park is also hiding something very special.

    “In the 1950s, the St. Paul Building, at 220 Broadway in New York City, was torn down to make way for a modern skyscraper. Karl Bitter, one of the outstanding architectural sculptors of the late 19th century, had designed the facade of the original building, including three massive statues made of Indiana limestone called ‘the Races of Man.’ To find a new home for the sculptures, the building’s owner, the Western Electric Company, held a competition among U.S. cities, which were required to submit plans for their display and preservation. Indianapolis proposed to place them in Holliday Park, which was then an arboretum, and the city was ultimately awarded the highly prized sculptures.” — From the Holliday Park Foundation Website.

    Now, visitors to Holliday Park in Indianapolis can visit the ruins while strolling the park, and even attend events like Rock the Ruins, a summer concert series that brings in several bands and performers every year.

    RH Indianapolis

    Feels like wandering around a European mansion.

    The place that inspired this list. Every time I step into the RH Gallery at the DeHaan Estate, I feel transported to a Roman villa or a European mansion. I like to grab a glass of wine from their wine bar and pretend I own the place while exploring the grounds. Which room would be mine? Where would I take my morning tea?

    Avon Gardens

    Feels like a secret garden where fairies might hide.

    I’ve gone to several events at the Avon Gardens including their annual peony festival, a wedding, and a family photoshoot (please visit their website before booking a photoshoot here). Each time I go back into the gardens, I am blown away. There are so many flowers, plants, and garden features that put all other gardens to shame! Get lost amongst the flowers and fairies this spring at the Avon Gardens.

    The Boathouse Kitchen & Swan Dive

    Feels like the perfect meal after a day getting slightly sunburnt on the beach.

    Think you can’t get lakeside dining, beachy cocktails, and sunsets over the water in Indiana? Think again. The Boathouse Kitchen & Swan Dive feels like having dinner in Florida while on a spring break family vacation. The menu includes: lobster steampots, seafood, sushi, burgers, oysters, and all the makings of a summer vacation meal on the “coast.”

    Other highlights include their live music and events. Come by for Happy Hour Monday–Friday from 3–6pm for awesome food and drink specials! They also have igloo rentals so you can dine on their patio and catch a beautiful Indiana sunset over the water any time of year.

    Veal’s Ice Tree

    Feels like a winter wonderland in the arctic.

    See the wonder of Veal’s Ice Tree in Indianapolis. A family tradition since 1961. P.S. It’s definitely giving winter court vibes for any ACOTAR fans in the house. I saw the tree two winters ago, and it remains one of the most spectacular sights I’ve ever laid eyes on.

    “In the winter of 1961, our family was spraying a fine mist of water on the hill south of the house to make an ice slide on to the pond. During the night, a strong east wind blew the spray onto some honeysuckle bushes. The result was so beautiful that we sprayed water directly onto the bushes and the Ice Tree was born!” — From the Veal’s Ice Tree website

    🗓️ Temperatures must be in the 20s for 7–10 consecutive days before they start building the tree. This usually happens in the month of January so mark your calendars and stay up to date! Follow them on Facebook to see when the tree is ready to visit

    Inferno Room

    Feels like a tiki bar you’d find on a tropical vacation.

    As soon as you step inside Inferno Room in Fountain Square, you are no longer in Indiana. I can’t explain it any better than that, and if you’ve been to Inferno Room, you get it. Grab a Mai Tai and take in the volcanic vibes. You’re on island time now.

    P.S. The Inferno Room was also featured in Dylan Sprouse’s The Duel. They filmed the movie in Indianapolis, and even had a red carpet screening last year that I got to attend. Check out the stars I captured.

    Carmel Christkindlmarket

    Feels like a cozy Christmas market in Germany.

    If you live in the Central Indiana area, you already know about this one. However, this winter market also brings in so many out-of-state tourists who want to experience the magic of the Carmel Christkindlmarket. This market feels like stepping out of Carmel, Indiana, and into a Hallmark Christmas movie set in a quaint German village.

    Feels like having tea in a princess’s drawing room.

    There’s a reason Cake Bake by Gwendolyn Rogers opened up a location in Disney World. It truly feels like walking into a Disney princess movie! Completely decked out in frills, and glitter, and flowers, and all the wonderful things.

    If you want to eat lunch here, I highly recommend making reservations. Or, you can also just stop in at their to-go counter at the Carmel City Center location for cake slices and bakery items if you’re craving something sweet!

    The Farmhouse Cafe & Tea Room

    Feels like stepping into the cottage from your favorite novel.

    A plant nursery, antique store, and cottage cafe all in one? Oh my! I could spend all day here exploring the greenhouse and sipping on frozen lemonade. The cottage, which was once a part of the Underground Railroad, has a delicious menu for lunch and dinner including salad, sandwiches, ribs, and desserts. You can also explore The Flower & Herb Barn on site for garden shopping.

    Grand Hall at Historic Union Station

    Feels like where one might catch a train in London’s Victorian Era.

    I’ve attended a wedding and a gala at the Grand Hall at Historic Union Station in downtown Indianapolis, and both times I was there I could not stop staring at the ceiling. It is absolutely breathtaking, and definitely not something you see in Indiana every day. You can also stay at the Crowne Plaza hotel which has hotel rooms built into Pullman cars.
