  • Where to Get a Water Softener and Reverse Osmosis System in Central Indiana (Installation, Cost & What to Expect)

Where to Get a Water Softener and Reverse Osmosis System in Central Indiana (Installation, Cost & What to Expect)

If you live in Central Indiana, youโ€™ve probably heard people talk about hard water or water filtration, but itโ€™s not always clear what you actually need, or where to even start.

Iโ€™ll be honest, this wasnโ€™t something I thought much about until I moved into our current home one year ago and started noticing a few things that felt off.

I started dealing with more skin irritation than usual, and my hair just wasnโ€™t behaving the same either. At our old house (which had a water softener), I could go 5โ€“6 days without washing my hair. After moving? That quickly turned into washing every 2-3 days.

I also realized I was relying heavily on a basic water filter pitcher which I know doesnโ€™t actually filter anything but the taste. And since I drink about 3 โ€œBig Dumb Water Bottlesโ€ a day, I was constantly refilling the pitcher (which got old fast).

So I decided it was time to actually look into what was going on with our water and what we could do about it.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at a Local Water Company

I recently had the chance to partner with US Water Systems, which is based in Plainfield, Indiana just west of Indianapolis. This isnโ€™t just an online company or a middleman. They have a full facility, a real team, and assemble their systems right here in Indy!

Theyโ€™re family-owned and operated, and you can really tell. I met members of the team, and they just had that close-knit, local business feel that you donโ€™t always get anymore.

Getting to see everything in person made me feel a lot more confident about the decision to move forward. I love that I can support a local business while also protecting my homeโ€™s water.

Why I Decided to Upgrade Our Home Water System

After learning more about how different systems work, I ended up installing:

P.S. If you use the links above, youโ€™ll save 5% on your system!

This decision came down to a few things:

    • I drink a lot of water every day and wanted to feel more confident in it
    • I didnโ€™t love relying on a basic filter pitcher (and constantly refilling it ๐Ÿ™ƒ)
    • I wanted to cut back on buying plastic water bottles
    • I had started noticing hard water buildup and changes in my skin and hair

If youโ€™ve ever dealt with cloudy shower glass or buildup on faucets, you know exactly what Iโ€™m talking about.

What the Installation Process Was Like

Iโ€™m not going to lie, this process had a slight hiccup. When we opened up the closet where the water softener was going to go, we realized there had been some water damage from that lovely Indiana spring rain weโ€™ve been having. So that had to be fixed before anything could be installed.

Once that was handled, everything moved forward pretty smoothly.

We worked with Blue Cord Plumbing (Curtis was amazing!) for the water softener installation. US Water Systems has plenty of great online videos to show you how to DIY the install, but I highly recommend going with a professional for this part.

The reverse osmosis system and Pulsar UV fits right under the sink, which was way more compact than I expected. We were able to install this ourselves with the help of US Water Systemsโ€™ trusty YouTube tutorials!

And I have to mention this because it was something I was so nervous about: We had to drill into our countertop for the RO faucet ๐Ÿ˜…

I genuinely thought something might go wrong and our entire countertop would get cracked, but we had Performance Stoneworks come out and they handled it in about 30 seconds. It was so quick and easy and made me feel so much better knowing my countertops were safe.

    What Iโ€™ve Noticed Since Installing

Since installing these systems, Iโ€™ve noticed:

    • Less visible buildup on our shower glass and fixtures
    • My skin feels softer after showering
    • My hair feels more manageable again
    • And not having to refill a water pitcher constantly has been life-changing. If you know, you know ๐Ÿ˜‚

One moment that really stood out to me was my first shower after the water softener was installed. My skin immediately felt smoother and almost silky.

What Does a Reverse Osmosis System Actually Do?

If youโ€™re new to this (like I was), hereโ€™s a simple breakdown:

A reverse osmosis system is designed to filter water through multiple stages to reduce certain impurities and improve taste.

The RO system I installed also includes a UV component, which acts as an additional treatment step that can be helpful during situations like boil water advisories.

As always, results can vary depending on your homeโ€™s water quality, which is why itโ€™s helpful to talk with a professional before choosing a system.

Do You Need a Water Softener in Central Indiana?

A lot of homes in Central Indiana deal with hard water to some degree.

Hard water can lead to things like:

    • Mineral buildup on fixtures
    • Spots on dishes or glass
    • More frequent cleaning
    • Changes in how your skin and hair feel

A water softener works by reducing the minerals that cause that buildup, which can help improve how water feels and how your home functions day-to-day.

    How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of a water filtration or softening system can vary quite a bit depending on:

    • The size of your home
    • Your plumbing setup
    • The type of system you choose

Because of that, itโ€™s best to get a personalized recommendation based on your home and needs. You can see all the options available at US Water Systems here, or see the actual products I ordered (and their costs) below:

P.S. If you use the links above, youโ€™ll save 5% on your system!

Why I Recommend Working with US Water Systems

One of the biggest takeaways from this whole experience was the value of working with a local company.

Being able to visit their facility, meet the team, ask questions in person, and know exactly where your system is coming from adds a level of trust thatโ€™s hard to get otherwise.

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth It?

If youโ€™re someone who drinks a lot of water at home, has noticed buildup or hard water issues, wants to reduce plastic waste, or just wants to feel more confident in your home setup, itโ€™s definitely worth looking into your options.

For me, this was about making a practical, long-term investment in our home that just makes everyday life feel a little better knowing I can be confident in the water Iโ€™m drinking and using on my skin.

    Want to Learn More?

If youโ€™re local to Central Indiana, Iโ€™d recommend checking out US Water Systems and learning what might make sense for your home.

Even just understanding your water a little better is a great place to start.

Places in Indiana… That Don’t Feel Like Indiana

Author John Green recently gave Indianapolis the slogan: “You gotta live somewhere, but also youย getย to live somewhere,” and it’s true. As a local Indy content creator who encourages folks to love where they live, I feel it’s best to be transparent and tell you that while I am incredibly grateful to live in Indiana, I didn’t always feel that way. Even still, I occasionally have days where I’m eating breakfast and go… “GET ME OUTTA HERE!!!”

And on those days, I have found little pockets of Indiana that feel like I’ve been transported somewhere else. To European palaces, ancient ruins, beachside lunches, and fairy cottages. I have a lot of love for my Indianapolis community, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. But if you also occasionally get cabin fever or if you just want to explore your home state in a new light, here is my list of places in Indiana… that don’t feel like Indiana. If you are just looking for unique places in Indiana and hidden gems near Indianapolis, keep reading.

P.S. Tap the names of each location for a video guide to each spot!

    Holliday Park

Feels like stumbling across ruins in an ancient land.

Holliday Park is my new favorite park in Indianapolis. Aside from the many walking trails, nature center, and the brand new playground, this Indy park is also hiding something very special.

“In the 1950s, the St. Paul Building, at 220 Broadway in New York City, was torn down to make way for a modern skyscraper. Karl Bitter, one of the outstanding architectural sculptors of the late 19th century, had designed the facade of the original building, including three massive statues made of Indiana limestone called ‘the Races of Man.’ To find a new home for the sculptures, the buildingโ€™s owner, the Western Electric Company, held a competition among U.S. cities, which were required to submit plans for their display and preservation. Indianapolis proposed to place them in Holliday Park, which was then an arboretum, and the city was ultimately awarded the highly prized sculptures.” โ€” From the Holliday Park Foundation Website.

Now, visitors to Holliday Park in Indianapolis can visit the ruins while strolling the park, and even attend events like Rock the Ruins, a summer concert series that brings in several bands and performers every year.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ FREE & Open daily from dawn to dusk

๐Ÿ“ 6363 Spring Mill Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana

    RH Indianapolis

Feels like wandering around a European mansion.

The place that inspired this list. Every time I step into the RH Gallery at the DeHaan Estate, I feel transported to a Roman villa or a European mansion. I like to grab a glass of wine from their wine bar and pretend I own the place while exploring the grounds. Which room would be mine? Where would I take my morning tea?

“Set within a spectacular 151-acre estate that includes one of the most accurate Palladian-style villas ever built in the United States, RH Indianapolis is a first-of-its-kind design and hospitality destination. The 60-room property seamlessly integrates RH collections with rare art, antiques and artifacts from across the globe. Enjoy the Dining Room restaurant that opens โ€“ along with the Lakeside Terrace and Wine Bar โ€“ onto a 35-acre private lake and stunning surrounding landscape.” โ€” From the RH website.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ FREE to enter. Make reservations if you want to eat at their restaurant.

    ๐Ÿ“ 4501 N Michigan Road, Indianapolis, Indiana

    Avon Gardens

Feels like a secret garden where fairies might hide.

I’ve gone to several events at the Avon Gardens including their annual peony festival, a wedding, and a family photoshoot (please visit their website before booking a photoshoot here). Each time I go back into the gardens, I am blown away. There are so many flowers, plants, and garden features that put all other gardens to shame! Get lost amongst the flowers and fairies this spring at the Avon Gardens.

“For over 30 years, Avon Gardens has been a treasured part of the Hendricks County landscape. After purchasing the property in 1987, [Karen Robbins] lovingly transformed what was formerly her grandparentsโ€™ farm into a lush garden paradise full of unique flowers, plants and shrubs.” โ€” From the Avon Gardens website

The Boathouse Kitchen & Swan Dive

Feels like the perfect meal after a day getting slightly sunburnt on the beach.

Think you can’t get lakeside dining, beachy cocktails, and sunsets over the water in Indiana? Think again. The Boathouse Kitchen & Swan Dive feels like having dinner in Florida while on a spring break family vacation. The menu includes: lobster steampots, seafood, sushi, burgers, oysters, and all the makings of a summer vacation meal on the “coast.”

Other highlights include their live music and events. Come by for Happy Hour Mondayโ€“Friday from 3โ€“6pm for awesome food and drink specials! They also have igloo rentals so you can dine on their patio and catch a beautiful Indiana sunset over the water any time of year.

    ๐Ÿ“ 409 W Jackson St, Cicero, Indiana

See also: Rick’s Cafe Boatyard west of Indianapolis. Contrary to my Facebook comment section, these are, in fact, two different places. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Looking for more patio dining in Central Indiana?

    Veal’s Ice Tree

Feels like a winter wonderland in the arctic.

See the wonder of Vealโ€™s Ice Tree in Indianapolis. A family tradition since 1961. P.S. It’s definitely giving winter court vibes for any ACOTAR fans in the house. I saw the tree two winters ago, and it remains one of the most spectacular sights I’ve ever laid eyes on.

“In the winter of 1961, our family was spraying a fine mist of water on the hill south of the house to make an ice slide on to the pond. During the night, a strong east wind blew the spray onto some honeysuckle bushes. The result was so beautiful that we sprayed water directly onto the bushes and the Ice Tree was born!” โ€” From the Veal’s Ice Tree website

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Temperatures must be in the 20s for 7โ€“10 consecutive days before they start building the tree. This usually happens in the month of January so mark your calendars and stay up to date! Follow them on Facebook to see when the tree is ready to visit

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ FREE. Donations to Wheeler Mission are encouraged.

    ๐Ÿ“6445 Mimosa Lane, Indianapolis, IN

Please be respectful of their rules and property when visiting.

    Inferno Room

Feels like a tiki bar you’d find on a tropical vacation.

As soon as you step inside Inferno Room in Fountain Square, you are no longer in Indiana. I can’t explain it any better than that, and if you’ve been to Inferno Room, you get it. Grab a Mai Tai and take in the volcanic vibes. You’re on island time now.

P.S. The Inferno Room was also featured in Dylan Sprouse’s The Duel. They filmed the movie in Indianapolis, and even had a red carpet screening last year that I got to attend. Check out the stars I captured.

๐Ÿ“ 902 Virginia Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

    Carmel Christkindlmarket

Feels like a cozy Christmas market in Germany.

If you live in the Central Indiana area, you already know about this one. However, this winter market also brings in so many out-of-state tourists who want to experience the magic of the Carmel Christkindlmarket. This market feels like stepping out of Carmel, Indiana, and into a Hallmark Christmas movie set in a quaint German village.

There’s a reason Cake Bake by Gwendolyn Rogers opened up a location in Disney World. It truly feels like walking into a Disney princess movie! Completely decked out in frills, and glitter, and flowers, and all the wonderful things.

If you want to eat lunch here, I highly recommend making reservations. Or, you can also just stop in at their to-go counter at the Carmel City Center location for cake slices and bakery items if you’re craving something sweet!

The Farmhouse Cafe & Tea Room

Feels like stepping into the cottage from your favorite novel.

A plant nursery, antique store, and cottage cafe all in one? Oh my! I could spend all day here exploring the greenhouse and sipping on frozen lemonade. The cottage, which was once a part of the Underground Railroad, has a delicious menu for lunch and dinner including salad, sandwiches, ribs, and desserts. You can also explore The Flower & Herb Barn on site for garden shopping.

๐Ÿ“ 5171 Bean Blossom Rd, Nineveh, Indiana

Grand Hall at Historic Union Station

Feels like where one might catch a train in London’s Victorian Era.

I’ve attended a wedding and a gala at the Grand Hall at Historic Union Station in downtown Indianapolis, and both times I was there I could not stop staring at the ceiling. It is absolutely breathtaking, and definitely not something you see in Indiana every day. You can also stay at the Crowne Plaza hotel which has hotel rooms built into Pullman cars.

  • Date Night Ideas in Indy (That Aren’t Dinner)

Date Night Ideas in Indy (That Aren’t Dinner)

I hear ya. You and your honey are sick of the typical dinner and a movie date night and you want to spice it up a bit. Well, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re looking for the best activities in Indianapolis for your next date night, then welcome to the only list you’ll ever need!

Okay, maybe not the only list, but these Indy date night ideas range from active to laid back, from crafty to sporty, from free to … not cheap. If youโ€™re searching for date night ideas in Indianapolis that go beyond dinner reservations, this list is packed with fun, unique, and active experiences for couples. Once you’ve worked your way through this list, give me a shout!

    PINS Mechanical

This is my go-to spot for out-of-town guests visiting Indy, but I also enjoy it as a local! We LOVE hanging out at PINS playing duckpin bowling and bocce ball, sipping seasonal cocktails on their rooftop patio, and wandering around the Bottleworks district of Indy. Make an evening of it and visit The Garage Food Hall for dinner and The Living Room for a movie.

    ๐Ÿ“ Downtown Indianapolis Bottleworks District

๐Ÿ’ธ Duckpin bowling is $7/person Monday – Thursday and $9/person Friday – Sunday.

    Back9 Golf & Entertainment

A local version of Topgolf (and you know we love supporting local businesses on Where Is Sondra!). Plus, they have some really great food + drinks and occasional events.

๐Ÿ“ Downtown Indy (but with a free parking lot ๐Ÿ™Œ)

๐Ÿ’ธ Bay Rentals: $45/hour Sunday – Thursday and $55/hour Friday – Saturday. Mondays are $35/hour.

    Butler Arts & Events Center

Sit back, relax, and enjoy one of the many performances coming to the stage at Butler Arts & Events Center! If you and your date enjoy comedy shows, live music, ballet, and the many performing arts, this should be on your Indy date night list!

๐Ÿ“ Clowes Memorial Hall on Butler University’s Campus

๐Ÿ’ธ Ticket pricing depends on the show, but they do have a free summer movie series!

    8 Seconds Saloon

Cheap drinks, line dancing, and a mechanical bull. If your date has cowboy boots in their closet, take them here! Catch some live music from up-and-coming artists and even some bigger names! This is one of the most fun things to do in Indianapolis for couples AND for group hangs.

    ๐Ÿ“ West Indianapolis

๐Ÿ’ธ $3-5 Cover charge on regular nights. Check their website for event tickets.

    Indianapolis Indians

A summer tradition in Indianapolis. Going to an Indianapolis Indians game on warm summer nights is what summer is all about!

    ๐Ÿ“ Downtown Indianapolis

๐Ÿ’ธ Tickets start around $15, but AAA members get free tickets to Monday – Thursday games! On Tuesdays they have $1 concessions, so you can really make it a cheap date! Thursdays are also a good day to go and get $3 beers.

    Stroll on Mass Ave

Do some window shopping, grab a coffee + a bite at a local restaurant, and enjoy one of the liveliest areas of Indy. Some stops I recommend are 16-bit for some free arcade games (21+), Coat Check coffee, and Good Neighbor for women and men’s clothing.

    ๐Ÿ“ Downtown Indianapolis

๐Ÿ’ธ FREE! (Minus parking.) Sundays are free street parking in downtown Indy!

    Explore Indianapolis Museums

Indianapolis is home to some wonderful museums. If you and your date enjoy art, I recommend Newfields. For history, Eiteljorg. For a bit of everything, the Indiana State Museum!

NOTE: The photo above was taken at Symphony on the Prairie at Conner Prairie which I highly recommend as a summer date night!

๐Ÿ“ Newfields, Indiana State Museum, Conner Prairie

๐Ÿ’ธ Each of these museums is available on the 3-Day Indy Attraction Pass starting at $75! Use code WHEREISSONDRA5 for a discount!

    Classes at Indy Art Center

Looking for unique date night ideas in Indianapolis? The Indy Art Center has “Make it Take it” classes that are perfect for a date night where you can try something new and take a souvenir home to remember the best date night ever. Maybe have a little romantic Ghost moment? There are pottery classes available. ๐Ÿ‘€

    ๐Ÿ“ Broad Ripple Indianapolis

    ๐Ÿ’ธ $30 – 80

I hope you’ve enjoyed this list of date night ideas in Indianapolis that aren’t dinner! I hope you and your date have a blast checking out these activities around the city. If you are looking to pair one of these activities with a sexy Indy restaurant for dinner, then check out this list!

  • Must Try Sushi in Central Indiana

Must Try Sushi in Central Indiana

Contrary to a Facebook comment I got a couple weeks ago claiming Indianapolis gets its sushi from the city sewers (yes, I’m calling you out, Jim!!), we really do have some awesome sushi spots in Indy and Central Indiana.

One thing you may notice with this particular Indy sushi list, however, is that many of the spots below are more of a “restaurant that also has sushi” rather than an honest-to-goodness sushi restaurant. While I am a sushi fiend, my husband… is not. So, I have made sure to note the restaurants below that are “Land-Lover Approved,” meaning it is a restaurant that also caters to our friends who prefer their food to come from above sea level.

Here are just a few sushi spots (or spots with sushi) I have tried recently in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas:

Prefer a video visual? Click the names of each restaurant for video guides.

    SALT ๐Ÿ“ Multiple Locations

SALT is a seafood restaurant that has a handful of crowd-pleasing sushi rolls on the menu. During our last “girl dinner,” we got about 5 different appetizers here and shared them all, which I highly recommend doing! And you can definitely share the large Birkin cocktail or mocktail while you’re at it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Salt on Mass ๐Ÿ“ 505 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

Salt Carmel at City Center ๐Ÿ“ 11 City Center Dr Suite 101, Carmel, Indiana (featured in the video)

Salt at Geist ๐Ÿ“ 10158 Brooks School Rd, Fishers, Indiana

FortyFive Degrees ๐Ÿ“ 765 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

    *Land-Lover Approved

FortyFive Degrees on Mass Ave is such a vibe! The colors and flavors are always vibrant and unique. They also always have great specials going on like Sushi Sundays (half off rolls 3-10pm), Wednesday half-price wine bottles, Thursday half-price cocktails, and a $10 lunch special!

    Harmony Steakhouse ๐Ÿ“ Multiple Locations

    *Land-Lover Approved

Not only do they have amazing sushi, but the hibachi is sooooo good! I can’t wait to go back in the summer because they have some hibachi grill tables outside on the patio. Plus, this is one of the best lunch specials in Indy: 2 Rolls + Soup or Salad for $17 or 3 Rolls + Soup or Salad for $21.

Downtown Indy ๐Ÿ“ 5145 Noggle Way, Indianapolis, Indiana (featured in the video)

Greenwood ๐Ÿ“ 220 N Meridian St, Indianapolis, Indiana

Whitestown ๐Ÿ“ 6124 Mills Drive, Whitestown, Indiana

    COMING SOON! ๐Ÿ“ 1030 W Main St,ย Carmel, Indiana

    1933 Lounge ๐Ÿ“ Multiple Locations

    *Land-Lover Approved

This is deeeefffinitely one of those “restaurants that also have sushi,” but I love getting a little of that famous St. Elmo’s cocktail sauce on my sushi roll. Perfect place for those of us with partners who prefer steak over seafood!

Downtown Indy ๐Ÿ“ 127 S Illinois St, Indianapolis, Indiana

Carmel Indiana ๐Ÿ“ 175 S Rangeline Rd Suite 100, Carmel, Indiana (featured in the video)

Fishers Indiana ๐Ÿ“ 9707 District N Dr Suite 1120, Fishers, Indiana

Blue Sushi Sake Grill ๐Ÿ“ 2721 E 86th St STE 100, Indianapolis, Indiana

*Land-Lover Approved (and this one is actually our favorite!)

I fell in love with Blue Sushi while I lived in Lexington for college. So, to find out they had a location in Indianapolis was an “angels singing” moment for me. Their happy hour sushi specials are LEGIT with reduced price sushi, apps, cocktails, and more ALL DAY every Sunday + open to 6:30pm the rest of the week.

    Sushi Yama ๐Ÿ“ 6020 E 82nd St Suite LL03, Indianapolis, Indiana

ALL. YOU. CAN. EAT. SUSHI. Yup, you heard that right. What I love about this AYCE sushi spot in Indy is that the sushi rolls, appetizers, salad bar, and ice cream are all included in the one price. The dinner price is $35.95 and lunch is $22.95.

Hanami Sushi + Sake Bar ๐Ÿ“ 703 Veterans Wy, Carmel, Indiana

This sushi is FIRE… literally. Now, not all the sushi rolls come out on a bed of flames, but this one does! And I love that I can taste the fiery grill flavor on this roll. This is that place in Carmel, Indiana with all the pretty bright pink trees out front! Perfect for girls’ night out or a little solo date action.

Noah Grant’s Grill House + Oyster Bar ๐Ÿ“ 91 S Main St, Zionsville, Indiana

Another great happy hour deal at Noah Grant’s in Zionsville, Indiana! $10 sushi rolls, cocktails, and oysters 4-5pm Tuesday-Saturday when you sit at the bar. Keep an eye on this one when Devour Indy rolls around. They always have a really good deal during those events!

Chiba ๐Ÿ“ 228 Park St, Westfield, Indiana

I really love Chiba for their patio dining (click the video to see what I mean). And now that it is getting warmer out, this is definitely a place to add to your list! Come on a Wednesday for all night happy hour deals!

The Courthouse Club ๐Ÿ“ 110 N 9th St, Noblesville, Indiana

    *Land-Lover Approved

One of the meals that altered my brain chemistry in 2025. The sushi, the views, and all the other food we tried here are absolutely worth the drive up to Noblesville from Indy. Make a day of it and explore Noblesville afterward! They have adorable shops, clothing boutiques, and the cutest book cafe ever.

The Boathouse Kitchen + Swan Dive ๐Ÿ“ 409 W Jackson St, Cicero, Indiana

    *Land-Lover Approved

I already have a plan to come back here this summer because it was THAT good. Plus, the views are unmatched. A warm Indiana summer day with a sushi roll, live music, and cocktails in hand while watching the sunset over the water? Say less.

I hope you enjoy this Indianapolis sushi guide! If you didnโ€™t see your favorite Indy sushi spot, let me know what I should try next by leaving a comment on this post or on myย Instagram. If you have a recommendation for the best sushi in Indianapolis or Central Indiana, I would LOVE to hear it!

Here are a few sushi restaurants I have on my list for this year:

Five Bucks Sushi & Boba ๐Ÿ“ 883 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana (yes, the sushi rolls are really only $5!)

Ichiban Sushi Bar ๐Ÿ“ 8265 US 31 S, Indianapolis, Indiana

Yokohama ๐Ÿ“ 67 N Madison Ave, Greenwood, Indiana (P.S. They have a sushi-making class I’m dying to try!)

Green Ginger ๐Ÿ“ 1675 W Smith Valley Rd E1, Greenwood, Indiana

If you’re not super into sushi, no worries! Check out these lists for aย roundup of Indiana burgers, Indy pizza you have to try, or you can view my top restaurant recommendations in Indianapolis on myย 2025 Restaurant Guide.

  • Top Date Night Restaurants in Indianapolis

Top Date Night Restaurants in Indianapolis

Welcome to your new favorite date night spot! I’ll be your host, Sondra, and this evening’s special is “Restaurants in Indy that are almost as sexy as your date.” Restaurants that make you dig in the back of your closet for that dress you never get to wear. Restaurants that give you an excuse to wear that fancy cologne you got last Christmas. Restaurants that definitely require a reservation, so you should probably get on that (don’t say I didn’t warn you!).

If you’re looking for something a little more casual, might I recommend my list for Indy’s best burgers or great pizza spots in Central Indiana? Or if you’re more in the mood for entertainment and activity, allow me to show you a list of Indy date night ideas that are sure to get her heart racing!

And if you’re still with me for fine dining in Indianapolis, then sit back, relax as the Where Is Sondra blog proudly presents… your dinner. ๐Ÿ˜‰

P.S. Tap the name of the restaurants to get a video guide to each spot.

    Bocca ๐Ÿ“ 122 E 22nd St, Indianapolis, Indiana

You might be tired of my recommending Bocca (because you know it’s in almost every one of my lists), but it truly has it all! My favorite patio in Indy (don’t tell the others) for those warm summer nights, a romantic interior with delectable Italian favorites, AND they also have a speakeasy in the basement.

    1933 Lounge ๐Ÿ“ 127 S Illinois St, Indianapolis, Indiana

You might notice that a particular Indianapolis steakhouse isn’t featured on this list (cough… St. Elmo’s… cough). No shade at all! I just prefer this Huse Culinary concept a bit more. SORRY DON’T YELL AT ME!! And the downtown location of 1933 is more of a speakeasy-style lounge above St. Elmo’s, so you can still get the classic shrimp cocktail in a romantic, intimate setting. Or, if you really want a full steak dinner at the iconic Downtown Indianapolis restaurant, just come up to 1933 Lounge after to enjoy a nightcap.

Full disclosure: The video is featuring the Carmel, Indiana location, but the Downtown Indy location is gorgeous too!

    Union 50 ๐Ÿ“ 620 N East St, Indianapolis, Indiana

Funny story. I actually came to Union 50 before my junior prom with a group of friends. I’m talking full prom dresses and tuxedos, so there is really no shame in going full glam here! A few things I love about Union 50 in my adult years, however, are the proximity to Mass Ave, seasonal menu selections, and extensive cocktail and wine lists!

The Fountain Room ๐Ÿ“ ย 830 Massachusetts Ave Suite 1480, Indianapolis, Indiana

Voted as one of America’s 50 Most Beautiful Restaurants, The Fountain Room in the Bottleworks District of Downtown Indy is serving up steak, seafood, and comforting classics. Plus, their cocktail menu always has something unique and strong to pair with a starter like their Brie Brulee. It truly is such a beautiful space sure to impress your date!

SALT on Mass ๐Ÿ“ ย 505 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

She wants sushi, he wants steak. She wants to drink out of a glass purse, he wants nautical-inspired decor… Okay, maybe I’m getting too deep in this. Anyway, enter SALT. The only place in Indy (that I know of) where your date can eat seafood, steak, and oysters while sipping a cocktail out of a glass Birkin. And yes, the food is just as amazing as it looks.

Full disclosure: The video is featuring the Carmel, Indiana location, but the Downtown Indy location is gorgeous too!

RH Indianapolis ๐Ÿ“ 4501 N Michigan Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana

I want to say upfront that this one isn’t super generous with their portion sizes, but the views make up for it. This would be perfect for a lighter dinner, grabbing a glass of wine, and walking around the estate on a warm night. If your pookie is looking absolutely fire, got a little dressed up, and wore their uncomfortable shoes, take them here for pictures! Your date needs a new Facebook profile picture (they told me!).

Capri ๐Ÿ“ย 2602 Ruth Dr, Indianapolis, Indiana

This one isn’t in Downtown Indy, but it is definitely a place to check out if your date loves Italian food, white tablecloth service, and limoncello! I’ve eaten here several times and I’m always impressed. Plus the moody lighting, stonework details, and romantic interior make me feel like I’ve left Indiana and am now in some sort of Italian villa.

Indy Date Night Restaurants on my 2026 List!

As lucky as I am to have gone to some of the most gorgeous Indy restaurants with my date, there are a few places that I haven’t been able to try yet. Below are just a few restaurants in Indy that I haven’t personally tried, but have come highly recommended in the @whereissondra comment section that seem to have allllll the romantic vibes to impress your date!

    Tinker Street ๐Ÿ“ 402 E 16th St, Indianapolis, Indiana

Bluebeard ๐Ÿ“ย 653 Virginia Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

BOHDI ๐Ÿ“ 922 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

Vida ๐Ÿ“ 601 E New York St, Indianapolis, Indiana (note that this one does come with a high price tag and a 4-6 Course Tasting menu!)

    Mama Carolla’s ๐Ÿ“ 1031 E 54th St, Indianapolis, Indiana

I hope you’ve enjoyed this ~fancy~ dinner date guide to Indianapolis! If you didnโ€™t see your favorite Indy date night spot, let me know what I should try next by leaving a comment on this post or on myย Instagram. • Best Pizza in Indianapolis + Central Indiana

Best Pizza in Indianapolis + Central Indiana

Did you know 100% of Indiana residents say pizza is their favorite food? Okay, I made that up, but I have to imagine it’s pretty close to that considering the amount of amazing pizza restaurants in Indy and Indiana! I know our city has some strong opinions on the best pizza in Indianapolis, so if you don’t see your favorite on this list, don’t fret! I am looking for new spots to try in 2026. Leave a comment telling me where to go next!

Here are just a few pizza spots I have tried recently in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas:

Prefer a video visual? Click the names of each restaurant for video guides.

    DOWNTOWN INDIANAPOLIS PIZZA

Bonk ๐Ÿ“ 1125 E Brookside Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

If you’ve heard of the Fowling Warehouse on Mass Ave where you can play a version of football/cornhole/bowling, then you might have heard the news that they are now selling Bonk Pizza for players! So if you’re looking for a night out in Indy idea that involves food AND an activity, definitely try this place out!

Shin Dig ๐Ÿ“ 1351 Roosevelt Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

Shin Dig is one of Cunningham Restaurant Group’s newest concepts, and theyโ€™re already serving some of my favorite pies in the city. We tried the Butcherโ€™s Pie, Bama BBQ Chicken, and Woodstock pizzas. Each one was unique and delicious. I am also obsessed with their outdoor patio. They have ping pong, cornhole, board games, fire pits, and more! Shin Dig was voted the Best Pizza in Indianapolis at the Indianapolis Pizza Fest.

Bazbeaux ๐Ÿ“ 329 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana

Bazbeaux in downtown Indy is a classic. Whether you’re out bar-hopping on Mass Ave, exploring local shops, or just in the mood for solid pizza, Bazbeaux is here for you. Bazbeaux also has locations in Broad Ripple and Carmel, Indiana, but I tried the one on Mass Ave.

    Gather 22 ๐Ÿ“ 22 E 22nd St, Indianapolis, Indiana

Gather 22 in the Fall Creek Place neighborhood of Indy is ALWAYS the vibe! This is one of my favorite places to take out-of-town visitors because the food is great, they have outdoor seating (including cute little swings), and occasional events. They serve Byrne’s Grilled Pizza which also has their own location in Broad Ripple.

    NORTH INDIANAPOLIS PIZZA SPOTS

Napolese ๐Ÿ“ The Fashion Mall at Keystone 8702, Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis, Indiana

New favorite date night spot in Indy? Napolese in the Keystone Mall has great food, amazing pizza, and all the romantic vibes. Grab some Italian at this must-visit Indianapolis restaurant, then wander the Keystone Mall after. I love a little window shopping ๐Ÿ˜‰ Napolese also has a location in Broad Ripple, Indianapolis.

Big Lug Canteen ๐Ÿ“ 1435 E 86th St, Indianapolis, Indiana

One of the best biergartens in Indy! Plus, their pizza is awesome. I can’t wait to come back to this one every year when the weather warms up. Big Lug Canteen in Indianapolis is right on the Monon Trail. So, you can stop in for a little pizza and beer and enjoy a nice stroll afterward.

3UP Rooftop Lounge ๐Ÿ“ 201 W Main St, Carmel, Indiana

I might be cheating with this one because it is definitely more of a “flatbread” situation, but the Pig & Fig at 3UP in Carmel, Indiana is definitely a must-try! Especially if you are enjoying it on their gorgeous rooftop.

    WEST INDIANAPOLIS PIZZA RESTAURANTS

Daredevil ๐Ÿ“ 1151 N Main St, Indianapolis, Indiana

Daredevil also has a location in the Ironworks District just north of Indianapolis. This location is in Speedway right down the street from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! So any Indy 500 fans planning a trip to Indy this May should check this one out! Their beer garden/outdoor patio is super nice too.

The Prewitt ๐Ÿ“ 121 W Main St 1st floor, Plainfield, Indiana

Once again another flatbread situation at The Prewitt Restaurant + Lounge in Plainfield, Indiana. However, I definitely wanted to include it for a little west side representation. ๐Ÿคญ Plus, they use Smoking Goose meats on this flatbread which is a local charcuterie supplier in Indy that you already know I love.

The Green Room Cafe ๐Ÿ“ 200 W Main St, Plainfield, Indiana

Who doesn’t love a coffee to cocktails spot? The Green Room Cafe in Plainfield, Indiana is serving up lattes and pastries by morning, and martinis and flatbreads by night. They rotate their menu seasonally, but there is always a delicious flatbread pizza on the menu to try!

I hope you enjoy this Indianapolis pizza guide! If you didn’t see your favorite Indy pizza spot, let me know what I should try next by leaving a comment on this post or on my Instagram. If you have a recommendation for the best pizza in Indianapolis, I would LOVE to hear it!

  • Best Places for Solo Dates in Central Indiana

Best Places for Solo Dates in Central Indiana

Searching for things to do alone in Indianapolis? Well, put away the box of chocolates you got on clearance at CVS (or just save it for later) because you are going out, my friend! Here are some of the best places to take yourself on a solo date in Central Indiana.

I have personally dined at or visited these Indiana establishments alone, and I am a self-proclaimed introvert who used to break out in hives at the idea of going to a restaurant by herself. So, I promise it’s only awkward if you make it that way. These are places in Indiana that are welcoming, comfortable, and relaxed, so you can sit in peace with a good book or just with your own company. Because if you’re here, reading this, I know you are cool and you should want to hang out with yourself!

The key to going on a solo date is knowing that everyone else is so wrapped up in their own world and insecurities that they don’t really pay attention to you. It sounds harsh, but I promise that thought will break down the Spotlight Effect we all wrestle with and give you so much mental freedom. In fact, if you are worried about looking lame or lonely to onlookers, I’m here to personally tell you that the opposite is true. The reason I started getting out of my own way and going to places alone was because I once saw a girl reading a book at the bar of a restaurant I was at and thought, “Wow, she is so cool and confident. I want to do that one day.” Alas, here we are! Just a couple cool, confident Indiana baddies who want to enjoy their own company.

Hint: Click the locations below for video guides to each place!

Relax + Unwind at Something Splendid

    ๐Ÿ“ 217 Mill St, Westfield, Indiana 46074

This Westfield, Indiana hidden gem is a wine bar and gift shop all in one! I brought my Kindle, sat in their heated patio, and had myself a wonderful evening! They have some yummy food options as well, so you can grab a snack and possibly catch some live music while you’re here.

Stay a While at a Local Coffee Shop

Tried, true, and solo date approved! These coffee shops in Indy have all the right vibes to get some work done, enjoy a good book, or just soak in the adorable decor while enjoying a seasonal latte. There’s plenty of seating, so you can pull up a chair, enjoy your own company, and grab a pastry (you deserve it!).

Le Nid Esthetics ๐Ÿ“ 10992 Allisonville Office Dr, Fishers, Indiana 46038

Create a Scent that’s all Yours at The Aroma Labs

    ๐Ÿ“ 850 Massachusetts Ave Suite 120, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204

Scents are sooooo personal. That’s why taking your time creating a candle, hand soap, or room spray at The Aroma Labs in the Bottleworks District would make the perfect solo date activity in Indianapolis. I created a signature perfume while I was here and I still wear it every day!

Take an Adult Dance Class at Dance Fam

    ๐Ÿ“ 468 Gradle Dr Suite 110, Carmel, Indiana 46032

Now, this one might seem intimidating, but it was seriously the most empowering thing I did for myself in 2025. I took Dance Fam’s Heels class where we brought our own pair of high heels and learned a burlesque-style dance to a Sabrina Carpenter song. I had a blast! Plus, I believe everyone in my class showed up alone, so it does make for a wonderful solo date night out in Carmel, IN. If heels aren’t your thing, they also have hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, and more!

Eat + Learn with a Charcuterie Tour at Smoking Goose

    ๐Ÿ“ 407 Dorman St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202

This Indianapolis tour + tasting is a MUST-TRY! I linked the video I did for this in the title above, but I’m going to go ahead and put the link for tickets HERE too. Tickets are only $20 and include the tour, a charcuterie tasting, AND a package of meat to take home! They do this tour every Saturday (yes, including Valentine’s Day). I did this tour by myself a while back, and had such a great time!

I hope you enjoy this list of things to do alone in Central Indiana! If you are considering a solo date in Indianapolis this season, I would love to hear about it! Leave me a comment letting me know which Indy date you tried.
